A business man typing on cell phone

I had the privilege of growing up with parents who expected us to speak properly. They knew–even though neither finished college–that command of the language would be the key to our success. And they were right: all six of us have done well and we have Steve and Glenna to thank for it.

Yesterday, I got a WordPress ‘recommendation’ from another blogger who wrote an incredible essay on texting, asking the provocative question, “Is Texting Ruining our Language?” Well…let’s start with the observation that the word ‘texting’ didn’t even exist 10 years ago. We can thank smartphones, Twitter and other short-form messaging apps for that! But back to the essay, Kate Wiles wrote an awesome piece about it, which you can read here. It’s a bit long, but well worth the read.

Enjoy! At the end, you, too, may well be SMH!
