I saw a great quote yesterday from Gen. James F. Amos, current Commandant of the Marine Corps (oh, and by the way, an “airdale,” to boot!) : “A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy two weeks ago – there’s no such thing as a former Marine. You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life. But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There’s no such thing as a former Marine.” For Marines everywhere, that really sums it up, doesn’t it? OOH-RAH!

Semper fi!

Yesterday, the Daily Pilot reported that a 22-year old woman was charged this past Friday with “gross vehicle manslaughter” in the death of a bicyclist in Newport Beach. The accused was charged with DUI and upon further investigation, determined that she was also TEXTING!

Coming back from Balboa Island this afternoon, we witnessed a woman DWT in a big, honkin’ Ford Expedition–with small kids in the car, no less!!! Come on, folks…how many more stupid senseless deaths do we have to witness or hear about before we GET IT???? Every day, I see no less than 4 – 5 people trying to text while holding onto the steering wheel. Some think they can get away with doing it while at an intersection, while waiting for a traffic light change. For Pete’s sake…all of you, please KNOCK IT OFF!!! Despite your narcissism, nothing is that damn important! Believe me, whatever you think is the end of the world that you are compelled to disrupt traffic to start punching keys on a Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, Droid or any other device, will still be there when you get where you’re going. Otherwise, pull off the freakin’ road and satisfy your electronic craving.

Consider this a warning: If you cut me off, rear-end me, or cause me to have an accident due to your arrogant, inconsiderate behavior, you will wish you never met me!
